[EMDR BASIC TRAINING] BASIC EMDR TRAINING
Add joy, hope and optimism to your clinical practice. Expect exceptional treatment outcomes—see your clients transform their lives. Look forward to going to work every day. No compassion fatigue…
Fraser Training was established in 1999 and has an excellent track record for producing confident EMDR clinicians. Now under the direction of Barbara Horne MASc, RMFT, Fraser Training offers EMDRIA-approved Basic EMDR Training courses on a regular basis in Central and Eastern Canada. These small-group trainings (maximum 30) are well recognized in the Canadian EMDR community for their effectiveness in enabling clinicians to immediately incorporate EMDR into their work with clients. In 2009, Fraser Training started offering the program in French, the only program of its kind in Canada. Previous course participants send us the vast majority of new participants, based on their positive experience with the program.
There are three steps to completing Fraser Training’s EMDR Basic Training program:
Part 1: |
3½ days (15 didactic hours; 12 practicum hours) |
Part 2: |
3 days (15 didactic hours; 8 practicum hours) |
Consultation Package: |
10 hours Consultation (usually group teleconference) |
Fraser Training delivers the program over two long weekends at centres throughout Eastern and Central Canada. The consultation hours follow each training weekend. The Consultation Package schedules five 2-hour group teleconferences with the Instructor or Facilitator (2 after Part One and 3 after Part Two). On site courses are also available. Our program is also expanding into new centres – please contact us if you would like a course in your city.

ABOUT THE COURSE
The program is divided into two parts:
Part 1 equips you to work with simple PTSD cases
Part 2 offers techniques and protocols for working with complex PTSD and special populations.
During the five in-course practicums, you do personal EMDR work in groups of 2 or 3, closely supervised by instructors and facilitators (on a 10:1 ratio).
During the 10 hours' Consultation, you get the support you need to successfully integrate EMDR into your day-to-day practice.
Following each of our training weekends, you will have what you need to immediately and comfortably begin using EMDR with your clients. Our training groups often go on to form peer-support networks or consultation groups for continued clinical support.
WHO CAN JOIN?
EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training is open to clinicians holding a Masters-level (or higher) education in a counselling field. Membership in a professional association with a Code of Ethics and sanctioning ability is also required. For those in private practice we require proof of Liability Insurance.

BARBARA HORNE’S REFRESHER WORKSHOPS FOR EMDR CLINICIANS
If you are not being routinely exhilarated by your current EMDR outcomes, it is time to refresh & revitalize your EMDR competence. [Fraser Training] Barbara Horne is now offering two one-day workshops to help you consolidate & enhance your EMDR skills, and increase both your confidence & comfort as an EMDR clinician. Anyone trained in an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training program is welcome.
WORKSHOP #1(Phases 1 & 2):
“Contain the Case—Set a Clear Path to Recovery”
Sometimes the sheer volume of our clients’ suffering leaves us feeling overwhelmed and confused. Their extensive stories of abuse can make the case feel amorphous and difficult to manage. A therapeutic relationship needs to be a secure container for the client’s work. In “Contain the Case” we help you feel confident about being able to establish this container by setting a clear path to recovery. This workshop enables you to take any case within your scope of practice and refine it into simple elegance. We teach you how to collect all necessary EMDR-relevant information for use in case conceptualization, trauma recovery planning and preparation. Using our simple yet comprehensive techniques for constructing a clinical file, you can turn even the complicated cases into straightforward work, so both you and your client know exactly where you are, where you’ve been and where you’re going at all times. We give you complete, updated materials to enable you to construct clinical files that are real clinical tools. “Contain the Case” provides a strong foundation for the next step... after all; your Phases 3-8 will only be as good as your Phases 1 & 2.
WORKSHOP #2 (Phases 3-8):
“Towards Protocol Fidelity-- It’s Tidy-up Time!”
Research has ably demonstrated that EMDR efficacy is the direct result of protocol fidelity. The “Tidy-up Time” workshop will allow you to review and dust up your 11-Step Protocol skills and eliminate any bad habits that may have crept in over time. Together, we review the Basic Protocol from Assessment to Re-evaluation within the crucial Three-Pronged Approach, emphasizing the important principles that govern each Phase. We also provide you with a complete package of crib sheets and templates to give you increased confidence that you are using the best EMDR practices with your clients.
